FAQS & CANCELLATION POLICY
1. WHY BALLROOM DANCING?
Ballroom provides the chance connect with your mind, body and soul. Your mind is learning a new skill that allows your brain to work in a way by learning new patterns that it's not used to. Ballroom also requires physical exertion so you are challenging your mind in addition to burning calories while building a strong core and increasing flexibility. Ballroom dancing releases a rush of endorphins allowing you to feel great while you move by yourself or with a partner.
2. HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO LEARN HOW TO DANCE?
It takes 12 weeks to see a transformation but can depend on the client. In order to maintain and continuously grow, lessons should be done on a regular basis. Two private lessons a week is a general recommendation.
3. DO I NEED A PARTNER?
No, you do not need a partner. It is important for every individual to learn how to move and connect with your mind and body for quality movement.
4. SHOULD I JUST FOCUS ON ONE STYLE OF DANCE?
Make sure you don't limit yourself to just one style of dance. For example, if you want to learn Country 2-Step, it would be just as important to know how to Waltz and East Coast Swing. Different dances offer similar moves that could be beneficial to another. A country song with an East Coast Swing or Waltz beat just as easily as there could be a Country 2-Step Tempo. I can help you differentiate the two.
5. MEN SAY THEY CAN'T DANCE, IS THIS TRUE?
Often, what men fear is the presentation of dance. Many men are afraid that they will look silly but what's important is to learn how to present your energy. Previously, male clients who come in with zero dance experience tend to find and view ballroom dancing as an exciting challenge. Knowing how to present yourself and leading go hand in hand.
6. SHOULD I TAKE 1 ON 1 OR GROUP CLASSES?
Private lessons give you one-on-one advantages that group classes do not. Those who take private lessons grow at a quicker rate than those who only take group. However, group classes are beneficial for learning how to dance, lead and follow roles with other dancers at all levels. Both are recommended.
7. DO I NEED SHOES?
Ballroom or Latin shoes with a leather sole are highly recommended for both leaders and followers. Avoid open toed shoes, boots, and shoes that grip when learning to dance. These can hinder accurate techniques and foot placement which are very important when learning how to dance.
8. SHOULD I HAVE A GLASS OF WINE OR ALCOHOL TO LOOSEN UPÂ BEFORE CLASS?!
While we all love our wine, it is preferred to save the drinks for after class. When you are learning something new, you want to make sure that you are fully present and alcohol tends to slow down our ability to retain information. After class, go for it!
9. WHAT IS MY GOAL?
Everyone has their own personal goals. This goal varies for each individual but it is important is to have one. For example, you may want to win a world or national title, become proficient in latin, learn both lead and follow parts, perform at a showcase or become an amazing social dancer. As your instructor, I can assist you towards setting your goals and helping you achieve them!
10. Are these classes included in a Lake Jackson Rec Center membership?
While classes are held at the Lake Jackson Rec Center, Chris Williams Dance/Lake Jackson Ballroom Dancing operates as a partner and independent dance studio. Therefore, these classes are separate from the Rec Center membership. Classes can be booked directly online or through the instructor.
CANCELLATION POLICY
Cancellations must be made 24 hours prior to any upcoming private lesson (individual lessons, pre-paid packages, subscriptions, etc.) Failure to cancel without a 24 hour notice will be charged as (1) lesson with the same applying to a no show.
